That hat of his looked so goddamn ridiculous, G had doubled over with laughter when Giotto had first introduced him to the rain guardian. Ugetsu had chuckled along with him in polite confusion until Giotto nudged G in the gut and muttered something about cultural sensitivity. Even after their first meeting, G still found Ugetsu’s hat to be one of the most hilarious head pieces he had ever seen—and that was including Spade’s haircut. Every time he saw the swordsman, he had the intense urge to rip the cloth away from Ugetsu’s head in order to discover what exactly was hiding under it.
It wasn’t until a year and a half after that first encounter that G finally achieved his objective. The time in between had been a convoluted journey, one of hope and danger, of the building of Vongola power and the destruction of lives. G had learned to see past Ugetsu’s unassuming façade to the man he was—quiet and reliable, full of dreams, life and joy.
But now, as G pulled on the cord under Ugetsu’s chin, his childish fascination was the furthest thing from his mind. He slipped the cloth from the other man’s head, the clothes from his body, and ran his fingers through the dark hair. Then he pulled him in for a kiss, soft and yearning like the melancholic melodies Ugetsu still hummed when he thought no one else was listening. They dropped to the bed together, the fit of their limbs and the slide of their skin too beautiful for words. And no words they spoke, save for the quiet whisper of names in the dark.
After that night, G no longer considered Ugetsu’s hat to be the most ridiculous thing in his life.
Because what is more ridiculous than love?

Ugetsu’s music was haunting. The first time G heard it, he could not believe that the swordsman was capable of producing such deep emotion with just a simple flute and his own wavering breath. It drew him in, enticed him, promised him more, more, just listen and there will be more. He soon found himself seeking out Ugetsu’s music every day, casually dropping by the man’s quarters, lying to himself that he wasn't practically addicted to the melodies or, truth be told, to the man behind them.
“I’ve written a song for you,” Ugetsu said one day. G’s breath hitched.
